He’ll succeed Dr Mary Bousted and Kevin Courtney in September
Daniel Kebede has been elected because the Nationwide Schooling Union’s subsequent normal secretary.
He beat Niamh Sweeney, the union’s first elected deputy normal secretary, to the highest job in an election by members held all through February and March.
Kebede, a main faculty trainer and the union’s former president, will take over from joint leaders Dr Mary Bousted and Kevin Courtney in September.
He received 28,636 votes, whereas Sweeney secured 12,918. Turnout was 9 per cent.
Bousted and Courtney provided Kebede their “heat congratulations”.
“It’s an honour to guide and serve NEU members and we all know that Daniel will proceed the union’s work to provide a voice to the career and marketing campaign for the world class schooling system our youngsters deserve.
“We provide our commiserations to Niamh Sweeney however welcome the truth that, from September, Daniel shall be lucky to work alongside Niamh in her position as our first elected deputy normal secretary.”
Sweeney congratulated Kebede on his win and thanked those that had campaigned and voted for her.
“Throughout my marketing campaign I spoke in regards to the significance of democracy throughout all ranges of our union. In my position as deputy normal secretary I’ll proceed to work arduous to make sure that all members voices are heard and their views represented.
“The Nationwide Schooling Union has an essential position in our society. Combating for our career and for the schooling of future era. I’ll proceed get up for our career and our members.”
